Who we are
RV RouteWise is an RV trip planner operated by TWISTED JESTER INC, a Texas company ("we", "us"). This policy explains what information we collect when you use rvroutewise.com and the RV RouteWise planner, who we share it with, and the choices you have. Questions: [email protected].
The short version
Today you can use the planner without an account. Your RV profile stays in your own browser. When you plan a route, the places you type and your RV's height, width and length are sent to the map and routing services described below so they can find your places and calculate a route. We don't sell your information, we don't use it for advertising, and this site doesn't use analytics or advertising trackers.
Information you give the planner
RV profile. Your RV profile (type, nickname, height, width and length) is saved in your browser's local storage on your device. We don't receive it on our servers. It stays there until you reset it in the planner or clear your browser data. RV RouteWise does not collect your vehicle's weight.
Trips and stops. The start, destination and stops you enter are used to plan your route while the planner is open. We don't save them on our servers.
Usage counter. The planner keeps a count of your monthly route lookups in your browser's local storage. It isn't sent to us.
Demo sign-in. The current sign-in screen is a placeholder. The name and email you type there are kept only in your browser, nothing is sent to us, and passwords are not stored.
Who we share it with to plan your route
Place search (OpenStreetMap Nominatim). When you plan a route, the places you type are sent to Nominatim, a search service run by the OpenStreetMap Foundation, to find them on the map. Its privacy policy: osmfoundation.org/wiki/Privacy_Policy.
Truck routes (HERE). Your stops (as map coordinates) and your RV's height, width and length are sent from our server to HERE Technologies to calculate a route that accounts for your RV's size. HERE processes this information under its own terms and privacy policy: HERE Privacy Policy and HERE terms. We don't store HERE routes on our servers.
Backup car routes (OSRM). If HERE isn't available, your stops are sent to a free OpenStreetMap routing service (OSRM, run by FOSSGIS) for a car route. That route does not account for your RV's size.
Map tiles (OpenFreeMap). To draw the map, your browser loads map images from OpenFreeMap, which, like any website, receives your IP address and the area of the map you're viewing. Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors.
Hosting (Cloudflare). Cloudflare hosts this website and runs our servers. Like any host, it processes your IP address, browser type and the pages you request in order to deliver the site and protect it from attacks. See cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.
Abuse and cost protection
Truck routing costs us money for each request, so our server limits how many routes can be requested from one connection. To do this we keep a salted, one-way scrambled (hashed) version of your IP address, never the IP address itself, along with a count of your requests. These counters delete themselves automatically within about 2 days.
Payments
Paid plans are not open yet. When they open, payments will be processed by Stripe, and PayPal may be offered as another way to pay. They collect your payment details (such as card number and billing address) under their own privacy policies (stripe.com/privacy, PayPal privacy statement). We would receive your email, a customer ID, and your subscription status and dates. We never see or store your full card number. Stripe or PayPal may set cookies on their checkout pages to prevent fraud.
Member accounts (when you create one)
Accounts aren't available yet. When they are, this section applies once you create an account:
Your account. We keep your email address, your name, and a scrambled (hashed) version of your password. We never store your actual password.
Sign-in cookie. When you sign in, we set one cookie that keeps you signed in for up to 30 days. It is required for your account to work and isn't used for advertising or tracking.
My RV. If you save your RV's VIN, we store it with the vehicle details returned by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), such as year, make, model and weight rating, plus any coach or chassis details you add.
Maintenance log. If you use the maintenance log, we store the dates, mileage or engine hours, categories, notes, costs and reminders you enter. They are visible only to you.
NHTSA lookups. To decode a VIN and look up recalls, we send the VIN, or your RV's make, model and year, to NHTSA's public data services.
Deleting your data. You'll be able to remove your saved RV or any log entry at any time. To delete your whole account and everything in it, email [email protected] from your account email and we'll delete it within 30 days, except billing records we are required to keep for tax and accounting.
Emails you send us
If you email us (for example with the Report a bug button), we receive your email address and message and use them only to reply and improve the service.
Cookies and trackers
Today this website doesn't set its own cookies and doesn't use analytics, advertising or cross-site tracking tools. If we add analytics in the future, we'll update this policy first.
How we use information
To provide the planner, plan your routes, protect the service from abuse and runaway costs, answer your messages, and, once paid plans open, run your subscription and send receipts and billing notices. We do not sell your personal information or share it for advertising.
How long we keep it
RV profiles and usage counts stay in your browser until you clear them. Rate-limit counters on our server delete themselves within about 2 days. Emails you send us are kept as long as needed to help you. Once accounts and paid plans open, we keep account data while your account is open and delete it as described above when you ask, and we keep billing records as long as tax, accounting and legal rules require.
Your choices and rights
You can clear your RV profile at any time in the planner or by clearing your browser data. You can ask us to access, correct, export or delete personal information we hold about you by emailing [email protected]. Depending on where you live (for example California), you may have more rights under local law, and we won't treat you differently for using them.
Children
You must be 18 or older to create an account or subscribe. RV RouteWise isn't directed to children, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll let account holders know before it takes effect.
